Start prenatal care early
WHO recommends the first contact within the first 12 weeks and ongoing follow-up for uncomplicated pregnancies. Your local care schedule may differ.
First trimester
Confirm pregnancy dating, review medicines, complete initial tests and assess risk. WHO recommends an ultrasound before 24 weeks in many settings.
Second trimester
Continue monitoring blood pressure, weight and symptoms. Gestational diabetes screening is often performed around weeks 24–28 depending on guidance.
Third trimester
Prepare for birth, ask how to monitor fetal movement and finalize postpartum support. Seek care promptly for clearly concerning symptoms.
